Sweeney Todd
Book by Hugh Wheeler and Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

CONCEPT

The Victorian penny dreadful turned operatic musical of dark proportions, this show mixes horror with humor. By using Expressionistic design elements, we will create a uniquely spare world that focuses on the misdirection of motivations that these characters employ.

SET DESIGN

Our set used forced perspective and shadowy lighting to create a world that is off center. The cast performed with virtually no set pieces, and this drove the horrific actions of the characters into the forefront of the audience's mind. By using shades of black, white, and grey, in the main set pieces, we were also able to use color in very specific moments that punctuated the difference between the people who were simply a part of the factory of life, as opposed to those who stood out and up.
