Masks

"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." - Oscar Wilde
Using a variety of simple materials, I seek to create unique masks and puppets that actors can easily embrace to enhance their character creation. Integrating the mask or puppet into rehearsal and developing from an active use of the piece is crucial. I believe that structure and embellishment work together to unite a design. The first question is always, "how is it worn or operated?"

Whether it is a half mask, full face covering, or puppet that is worn, carried, or manipulated with dowels or by hand, I design with the individual actor and character in mind. Emphasis is placed on freedom of movement and innovative physical expression.
