Macbeth
Book Shakespeare

CONCEPT

Macbeth is the story of a hero's downfall because of greed and hubris. The power of the Weird Sisters often falls to the periphery, so I chose to place them centerstage. Their influence is felt in the shadows; their power is ever-present on the stage, and Macbeth is marked from his first meeting with them.

SET DESIGN

This play is surrounded, like mist, in magic and mythology. We chose the central image of Cairn stones and Stone Henge as the backdrop for the story of fate and heroes. The crumbling castle towers that flank each side of the proscenium echo the political intrigue and collapsing monarchy that covers the land. The space transformed from castle to various locations out in the Scottish war-torn terrain seamlessly.
