"The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek."- Joseph Campbell
I am a teacher, director, and interdisciplinary artist. I am at home devising and developing new work, engaging with heightened language, and finding the heart of a story and staging it by using Michael Chekhov and Augusto Boal's methods. Like Mr. Boal, I see the potential of theatre to unite people, whether it is the whole creative team in rehearsals, or through the communion in the theater during performance. Like Mr. Chekhov, I see my role as teacher and director as the leader who helps actors transform. I begin each process by finding a universal image that establishes a visual vocabulary for the design team and actors. I adapt to the text, guide the performers, and invite the audience to engage actively. Primarily, I seek productions that promise mythic theatricality, interaction with the audience, and inclusive storytelling. I received my M.S. in Theatre History at Illinois State University and my M.F.A in Directing from the University of Idaho.
I am the Director of Theatre and Fine Arts Chair at Saint Patrick High School where I teach, direct, and serve as Artistic Director for our summer immersion company where my students work with Non-Equity performers to produce a musical.
